Umno Youth challenges Nizar over TOL land issue=

IPOH<= /st1:City>: The Perak Umno Youth has challenged Mentri Besar Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin to prove= that the 134 planned and new villages in the state only had

temporary occupation licences (TOL).

Its chief Zainol Fadzi Paharudin defended = the previous state administration under Barisan Nasional and pointed out that it had issued a total of 48,183 land titles.

“The people have a right to know the true story,” he said in a statement issued here yesterday.

Nizar had recently announced that permanent land titles would be issued to all kampung tersusun (planned villages) and new villages.

He had said that the move was to enable long-time residents to enjoy the “fruits of their patience” and the benef= its of the new coalition government.

On Nizar’s statemen= t that it was the state’s gift to the people, Zainol Fadzi said: “What is their present to the Malays living in the city with no land of their own?”

The movement urged the Mentri Besar not to take short-term measures to solve proble= ms when Malay interests might be jeopardised in th= e long run.

The previous administration, Zai= nol Fadzi pointed out, had in fact improved facilit= ies at the villages.
